MATCH REPORT: Spring Best Pairs

Northumbria Spring Best Pairs, Saturday 3rd May 2014

Ashie Patterson took the track in his first outing of the season to defend the Spring Best Pairs title, falling in his first ride before going on to be unbeaten thereafter as he teamed up with Richie Smith and Gavin Parr to take the meeting win.
Smith showed he meant business also with a fine pass as he went round the outside of Jim Graham early on, the club’s development officer finishing also with a fine win. The pair were of course helped by super team riding throughout by club captain Parr. Scoring in this meeting was 4-3-2-0 so team riding was certainly the order of the day with lots of close and interesting races.

Second place went to Jason Keith and Neil Magee, with Keith having no problem beating all but Parr, while pre-meeting favourites Dan Redshaw and Terry Kirkup took third despite Redshaw being forced to miss his last race. Daniel Wharrier, who won last year in tandem with Patterson, scored well throughout with plenty of 2nd places, but couldnt put it together for either a race win, or to bring home his partner Graham.

Result:
1st: Gavin Parr/Ashie Patterson/Richie Smith – 35 points
2nd: Jason Keith/Neil Magee – 26 points
3rd: Dan Redshaw/Terry Kirkup – 24 points
4th: Daniel Wharrier/Jim Graham – 23 points

Following another well attended rock up and ride session, we were also treated to more on track junior racing, Lee Redshaw narrowly seeing off Mitchell Grey by just 2 points in the end after six heats of action.
