PREVIEW: BYJL Midland Round 3

On Saturday Bretford will be hosting Round 3 of the Midlands BYJL with the promise of better weather than last Saturday’s round at Coventry.

In the U8s there are joint leaders with Ronnie Wassall gaining revenge for his defeat at Leicester by holding on to beat Connor Steele in last Saturday’s A Final.

In the U10s both the front runners come from Leicester. Although Rory Haywood had the better of their races in the heats, in the all important A Final it was Sophia Sinclair-Black who took her second A final win, arm aloft as she crossed the finishing line in a manner reminiscent of another Leicester lady winner at the same Coventry track last August.

In the U12s the top two from the first round were both there, but sporting broken limbs, and it was Marc Phipps who won the A Final and took the overall lead. Bailie Phillips, who also reached the Final unbeaten, had to settle for second place, but as an ex-Bretford rider will clearly be in with a chance on Saturday. Tyler Bould and Liam Cartwright will also be looking for repeats of their A Final spots.

In the U14s Haydn Rowley is still unbeaten but needed a strong gate in the A Final to ensure victory over Ewan Hancox, who in his first appearance in this year’s competition  was unbeaten in the heats. The Cleaver twins will be looking for home track advantage as they continue their family battle.

In the U16s Brandon Whetton has continued from where he left off in last year’s U14s, and is unbeaten so far. But with three of his big rivals, Lee Kemp, Kyle Roberts and Mason Phillips all having plenty of experience round the tight Bretford track it promises to be an interesting contest.

Finally in the girls Courtney Aris has been winner in both rounds but will once again be challenged by second placed Elizabeth Rigley.
