MATCH REPORT: Hawks’ weekend round up

Hethersett Hawks/Swinton & Co will have all roads lead to their Memorial Playing Field track this Saturday with riders coming from all over the country to contest the British Under-19 Championship, sponsored by haart estate agents.  Action gets under way with qualifying heats at 1 p.m. with the final starting at 3 p.m. Local favourites Olly Riley and Olly Buxton will be in action.

The Club’s resources were stretched to the full when 75 riders took part in the British Youth & Junior League plus South-East Grand Prix event..  The latest batch of recruits to the Hawks camp performed very well in the Under-8s with wins in the B, C and D finals from Leo Mallett, Dylan Crawley and Daniel Wengrow respectively. In other Grand Prix “A” Finals Olly Buxton (Senior) and Roger Carter (Veterans) finished third and Katie Adams (Girls) finished fourth.  The team event was dominated by Suffolk Clubs but Hethersett notched their best score of the season.

The League matches against Great Blakenham were a big disappointment as the visitors were let down and only arrived with five riders to cover three matches.  In Division 1 Hethersett had bike failures, falls and exclusions but still scored a big win with Olly Buxton and Josh Herring looking in much improved form. Visitor Lewis Osborne was unbeaten but he was in second place in the opening heat until Nick Myhill shed a chain and crashed.

The Combination Division saw three Hethersett riders unbeaten – Olly Buxton, Dan Butler and Roger Carter – spearheading another big win while in the Youtn Division all eight Hethersett youngsters were able to get plenty of rides – four of them better riders guested for Gt.Blakenham who had just one rider!!  Although Blakenham won this match 74-56 adjustments will be made by the League for the guest riders – Hethersett winning 79-24.
