PREVIEW: Midland BYJL Round 4

The Midlands Regional rounds reach a conclusion tomorrow at Ashmore Park as Wednesfield host the fourth round – racing gets under way at the earlier start time of 11.00 am, with registration from 10.30 am.

Not only is qualification for the National Rounds at stake, but the top three overall in each age group will receive a trophy thanks to the sponsorship of organiser’s Ross Mee accountancy business Nixon Mee Ltd.

In the U8s the battle for the top spot is between Ronnie Wassall and Conor Steele, with Ronnie holding a 2-1 lead in A Final victories. Home riders Corey Burt and Finley Burden will be battling it out for third place.

In the U10s the top two are well clear of the rest with Sophia Sinclair-Black, winner of the opening two rounds, 8 points clear of another Leicester rider, Rory Haywood, who has been Mr Consistent with three second places so far.

In the U12s injuries to Jimmy Wassall and Josh Whetton, who took the top two places in the opening round, have opened the way for Marc Phipps and Bailie Phillips. They have each won one round, and Marc has a 3 point lead going into this round. Behind them competition for third place is very tight.

In the U14s, anything other than a victory for Wednesfield’s Haydn Rowley would be a major surprise as he is unbeaten so far this year. Behind him Bretford’s Jason Cleaver is a clear second, but again competition for third place is tight.

In the U16s East Park’s Brandon Whetton has been equally dominant. The competition is for second place with Lee Kemp holding a 2 point lead over Liam Wood. Injury will unfortunately prevent Mason Phillips, equal second at present, from competing.

In the Girls Leicester’s Elizabeth Rigley took full advantage of Courtney Aris’s decision to miss the Bretford round, winning it with some very determined riding and taking the overall lead.

We can look forward to an enjoyable day’s racing.
