MATCH REPORT: Newport pip Hellingly

Newport (Dig It Landscapes) cycle speedway team visited hellingly lions in the South and South Wales league meeting, and returned home with a slender 1 point win 90 to 89.

Not many teams enjoy racing on the flat, slippery, limestone circuit and Newport were no exceptions, showing possibly their worst performance of the season. The welsh 8 were all at sea repeatedly getting out of the starts first, but letting slip, literally, and being passed by the sussex outfit.

Newport trailed at the interval by three points and looked in danger of losing the match, but fine second half displays from Nicky Evans, Oli Sidwick and Mark Carmichael just keep them in front. A last heat heat advantage from the Evans/Bock pairing gave Newport the points to remain top of the league, two points ahead of closest rivals Poole.
