OBITUARY: Roy Burston

Roy Burston, ex-Moston Pirates rider ex-Heywood Arrows and Blackley Manchester and Chesham rider, died shortly before Christmas, his funeral will take place at Blackley Crematorium Manchester on January 6th at 2:30pm.

Roy began his cycle speedway career at Moston in the late 1940s, and after a break of 25 years plus made a comeback for Heywood in the Manchester league helping them win the division 2 title.

He later moved over to the Blackley team where he rode for a couple of years before transferring to the Manchester track when Blackley left Heaton park.

In his later riding years he rode for Chesham in Bury before hanging up his wheels.

Probably his greatest claim was that he was stand in team manager for the Blackley team when they beat Thurrock at sandwell in the British team championship in 1980.

He leaves a son and two daughters.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Roy.
