WEEKEND PREVIEW: Only a few matches over Easter Weekend

Most teams are having a rest this weekend, but we do have a few matches going on in Midland, Northern and South and South Wales leagues, as well as Wednesfield’s Go-Ride event on Sunday.

Midland League

Wednesfield Dragons v Coventry

Wednesfield Dragons will be able to call on Chris Jewkes, Dave Meanley and Under 16 Brandon Whetton for their clash with Coventry. At a Midland League meeting last night, it was agreed that the Dragons could strengthen using Jewkes and Meanley, as well as any under 16 member of the Aces. Coventry will welcome back Dave Frith into the fold after he was also granted permission to race, despite being on a license with Leicester. The Coventry based rider is expected to go straight into the team, along with Polish ace Dominik Rycharski, who will be supported by Bobby McMillan and Myke Grimes. Along with ever improving youngsters Mason Phillips and Dan Drewett.

Northern League

Stockport v Hull

League Champions Stockport welcome Hull in this Northern League fixture. The home side are odds on favourite to maintain their over 2 year unbeaten record against a Hull team who are certainly missing the absent Adam Stephenson so far this year. Andy Angell has been on good form for the Humbersiders, however, his team faces an uphill battle against the well oiled machine of Stockport.

South and South Wales League

Horspath v Poole Comets v Newport

After last week’s non-starter at Newport due to the weather, Horspath and Newport kick off their campaigns in this new look three way S&SW league fixture. Poole Comets are the third team in the 27 heat 6-rider formula (with spaces for two reserves). The Comets got off to a win in their first S&SW encounter last weekend. Newport have been training hard over the win and will be champing at the bit to get their season underway. Horspath are at home so will no doubt field a decent side, headed by Mark Boaler and Zac Payne.

The only other racing this weekend is the previously featured Wednesfield Go-Ride, which starts at 12pm on Sunday for all Midland Junior riders.

If you’re racing this weekend, enjoy it, if not, enjoy your weekend off and bank holiday!
