EUROVETS: “Come and join us!” says Eurovets boss

Eurovets Grand Prix promotor Fred Rothwell has issued a mid season invitation to the sports many veteran racers by saying “come and join us” as the 2015 series heads to its sixth round this Saturday at Hellingly, near Eastbourne.

The Eurovets Grand Prix series is still going strong after nearly fifteen years of track action. It offers competitive age related racing to three categories of vets – over 40s, over 50s and over 60s.

Rothwell said, “The Eurovets series continues to strive and its great to see the commitment, passion and racing skill of so many vets at each round. Numbers remain very healthy but I would say to any vets who have yet to take part – come and join us.

“We always have room for more riders at each round and it would be nice to get up to full 16 rider fields for the remaining four rounds of the 2015 campaign”, concluded the amicable Yorkshireman.

And, several top vets riders have joined with Rothwell in encouraging other vets to take part in the remaining rounds, starting with Hellingly, ironically one of the oldest clubs in the sport, this Saturday.

Top Norfolk racer Paddy Wenn has been a popular addition to the series this year. He said “I have really enjoyed it, even the travelling. Its been great to race at so many tracks outside my region and meet so many fellow vets”.

And another first year Eurovet Paul Matthews joined in the praise of the competition. Matthews commented, “Racing at the Eurovets is perhaps my level now. I feel I am competitive at this level and I am not giving away say 30 years to my opponents as is sometimes the case in regional racing”.

Eurovets Grand Prix stalwart Mick Aris, a regular on the circuit, dispelled any notion that Eurovets racing is a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park by emphasizing the competitive nature. The Wednesfield hero said, “You only have to look at Mark Winwood`s and Joe McLaughlin`s all-out efforts to see that Eurovets racing is as competitive as any other form of racing”.

Northumbria kingpin Terry Kirkup, who often leads a posse of Newcastle based riders to each round, was quick to flag the friendly side to the events too. Kirkup commented: “Its good to see fellow competitors from each region, do some keen racing, and discuss the latest Cycle Speedway affairs of the day”.

Round 6 of the Eurovets Grand Prix series races into Hellingly this Saturday, 18th July. Sunny weather is expected for the 1pm start time. Riders need a TLI Cycling licence to take part (available from www.tlicycling.org.uk) or day licences are available right up to race time.

The Hellingly track is in Lower Dicker Recreation Ground, Hellingly, near Eatbourne, Sussex. BN27 4BE.
