RESULTS: Great Britain put series to bed in second half

Great Britain stormed to victory from a point down at the interval to win by 17 points, taking the Harley-Witham trophy and the Ashes series by 2 matches to 1.

It was a memorable night at Hearsall Common, as the usual track with two containers was turned into a high quality sporting arena, with grandstand, video scoreboard and floodlights.

Great Britain got off to a solid start but lost their way towards the end of the first half, going into the break one point down. But Dave Murphy’s half time team talk must have worked, as GB came out fighting and managed to put the meeting to bed with a string of heat advantages, final score 97-80.

The GB women stormed to a three-nil series win in convincing style again. With the womens game going from strength to strength, both teams should take a lot of credit for how hard they’ve worked to get womens Cycle Speedway racing where it is now.

The Australian ladies never give up and pushed the GB team all the way, they can go back to Australia next week proud with what they’ve achieved thus far.

As for the Great Britain women, they will turn their attention to the Federation Cup and hope to make it 4 out of 4 against the Aussies. Likewise, you wouldn’t bet against seeing another Great Britain winner on the podium in the individual come Sunday, but the competition is fierce, especially with the two ladies from the East! It’s going to be a cracker.
