RESULT: Grabowski crowned 2015 World Champion

Poland’s Bartek Grabowski is the new 2015 World Champion after a controversial run off with Great Britain’s Chris Timms.

Grabowski was on course to win the title going into his last ride, but a poor gate saw him at the back of the pack coming out of the first bend. The young Polish flyer, the first man to ever win Junior and Senior world titles, managed to get himself into second place behind Marcin Szymanski, setting up a run off with Chris Timms with both riders on 18 points.

Timms won the toss for grid positions and elected to take the inside. Then going into the third lap, controversy. Timms appeared to slip on the pits bend and Grabowski went down. Referee Mike Hack judged Timms to be at fault and excluded the Birmingham rider, declaring Grabowski the winner as he lay on the shale.

There is no bigger call in Cycle Speedway than that, video replays will be he judge of whether it was right or wrong. Regardless, Bartek Grabowski is the new World Champion, with Chris Timms in second place.

Marcin Szymanski finished in third after a full bloodied run off with Australia’s Bobby McMillan. Both riders finished on 15 points, the former World Champion won the toss and was just able to put off McMillan’s efforts up the inside for four laps.

Nowacki, Boaler and Angell were all in the hunt, finishing on 14 points. Wales and Newport’s Mark Carmichael was red carded after swearing at referee Mike Hack in heat 13.
