DRAW: 2016 British Team Knockout Cup | Round One
The draw has been made for the British Team Knockout Cup. Once again it’s disappointing to see the best part of half the teams getting byes into the second round with only 11 clubs entering.
Round 1 – 19th June |
Bury v Horspath |
Ipswich v Coventry |
Hull v East Park |
5 Byes- |
Birmingham |
Leicester |
Newport |
Poole |
Wednesfield |
Quarter Finals – 21st August |
Semi Finals & Final |
11th September (Horspath) |
Bury host Horspath, which has potential to be a close encounter, with Bury’s young team ever improving. Coventry travel down to Ipswich for an all Elite League round one tie, both will be without their Australian assets, Coventry without Bobby McMillan and Ipswich without Cody Chadwick, who landed in the UK this week to race for the Eagles throughout 2016.
Another close match could be in prospect in Humberside, with Hull hosting Wolverhampton’s East Park. Birmingham, Leicester, Newport, Poole and holders Wednesfield all get byes into round two.
It is a shame however, that we do not have a full 16 clubs in the competition. The Midlands teams are all involved, two from the North, three from the South and South Wales region and only Ipswich from the South East. It only serves to devalue what is meant to be a prestigious competition and title to win.
