PREVEW: Junior stars flock to Coventry

The cream of the top Midland junior riders will flock to Coventry`s Hearsall Common track today (Saturday 14th May) when the home club play host to round 3 of the British Junior League.

Over 60 riders are expected, with all the Midland clubs expected to be represented in the sports` flagship junior competition. Registration for riders runs until 11.30am, with racing getting under way at 12 midday.

Riders race in their own age group category, beginning at under 8 years and continuing at under 10, under 12, under 14 and under 17 level. The girls get into the act too, with their own fiercely contested age category.

For the first time since their miraculous revival in 2012, Coventry have high hopes of winning a regional round victory. Helped by home track advantage, Coventry are hoping to push current regional leaders Wednesfield Aces into second spot.

The host club will be looking to double winner Jack Reynolds – who won previous rounds at Birmingham and East Park Wolves – to repeat his successes in the under 12 category. Reynolds is following in the tyre-prints of grandfather John, a former Whitley star.

Reynolds will face tough competition from his great friend, Wyatt Jacobs who has only been racing a year. Jacobs won the Coventry Spring Junior championship at Brandon two weeks ago.

There will be another Coventry head to head in the under 14s classification. The fast improving Jimmy Wassall and the flying Ben Wells shared the spoils in the opening two rounds and their individual battle will recommence at Hearsall Common.

Further Coventry hopes for success will rest with popular Alex Jones, newcomer Jacob Slezak, returnee Ronny Wassall and with Sammi Marsh in the girl’s section. The club are also hoping to field a number of debutants in the competition.
