BYJL: Round 3 preview from Gin Pit

The third round of the BYJ&L will take place tomorrow at Astley & Tyldesley 10am start.

Whilst the start of the holiday season affected the numbers at Round 2 at Southampton those who took part provided plenty of excellent racing on a very hot day.

In the U8s it was same again for the top two with a win for Scott Rowles, leading home his Poole team mate Max Parry, with Nataleigh Goulden taking third place. Scott now leads the overall standings with 50pts, followed by Max on 40pts and Magnus Vincent on 34pts.

With this round on his home track A&T’s John White will be looking to continue his winning run, having lead home three riders who had much improved second rounds – JJ Wildman, Connor Steel & Oliver Saunders.

John is a clear leader on 50pts, with a B Final win for Logan Perkins moving him into second on 32pts. Joe Hurren is third on 28pts with the Birmingham duo of Dylan Hawtin & Connor Steel only one point behind. The competition for second and third spot looks like it will go to the wire.

Another unbeaten rider is leader of the U12s Oliver Wright. The impressive Maddie Saunders was unbeaten in the heats and took advantage in the final of a slip from her Poole teammate Nathan Goulden to take second on the day and move two points ahead of Nathan in the overall standings on 38 pts. A third for Joe Brownell kept him in fourth place overall.

After an unbeaten performance in the heats it looked if Stockport’s Devon Campbell would take a win in the U14s final as he led, but an unfortunate fall let in first round winner Max Evans who was followed home by Lewis Brinkhoff and Danny Bryne. Max now has 50pts overall, with Devon second on 36pts, followed by Danny on 34 and Lewis on 33pts.

In the girls no one could match Macie Schmidt’s gating prowess and she took the win again from Elizabeth Rigley and Sammi Marsh, which is how the overall standings look with 50pts, 40pts and 34pts respectively.

The U17s was the worst affected by absentees but there was nevertheless plenty of competitive action and it was good to see heat wins for Adam Tipton and the ever popular Josh Marsh. Carl Parfiitt did his best to put leader Brandon Whetton but an unlucky touch on his back wheel in the final brought him down with Poole’s Callum Smith and Ben Tinsdale taking full advantage. Brandon now has a clear lead on 50pts, followed by Callum on 32pts, Ben on 31pts and Carl on 30pts, so there is still plenty to ride for.

In the Club competition Poole consolidated their lead ahead of Wednesfield and Kesgrave.
