MATCH REPORT: Coventry lose out in final heat once again

Coventry lost out in yet another last heat decider in the Midlands League at Hearsall Common last Sunday – this time Wednesfield Dragons won in the final heat to post a winning 91-85 score line.

The home side provided the majority of the heat winners early on, with Myke Grimes and Dominik Rycharski in scintillating form. The pair kept Coventry in contention as they trailed by just two points at half time.

A Ray Oliver/Grimes maximum heat advantage in heat 17 set-up a crucial last heat decider. At the first time of asking in the final heat, the Coventry pair of Rycharski/Dan Drewett hit the front but the race was stopped for a first lap infringement.

The Coventry duo could not register the required first and third men home in the resulting re-run, leaving Coventry yet again pointless after another close and entertaining home match in regional racing.

The home side gave Stratford Upon Avon based youngster Cameron Gill his home debut and the speedy youngsters responded by brilliantly winning his first ever senior team race.

The new Brandon Bees team recorded an excellent 78-72 win at Hearsall Common last Sunday against a young home side in an under 16s challenge.
