CLUB NEWS: Wednesfield decorate European winners

Although it’s not a mandatory arrangement stipulated by the ICSF for the staging of the European Championships, Wednesfield Aces felt Brandon Whetton deserved a European winners race jersey and knew of his disappointment at not wearing one when becoming European Junior champion earlier this year.

The club committee commissioned shirt design experts, 33/18 Designs to create an unofficial jersey fit for a champion.

Steve Mullinder of Dash Trophies then asked for two more jerseys to be commissioned, at the cost of the business, and presented them to Women’s champion, Lauren Hookaway and Open champion, Lukas Nowacki, who had also been invited to attend the Wednesfield Aces presentation evening to receive their winners race jersey.

Club spokesman Wayne Tipton commented: “To have all three European Cycle Speedway champions wearing their jerseys with pride was one of the highlights of the night.”

The victors were given a standing ovation by over two hundred people in attendance.

Champions shirts are always a welcome prize for the riders and perhaps could be something the ICSF could consider for future European championships, to bring it in line with the Worlds.
