INDOOR 2016: Monarchs ready to defend their title

The Birmingham Monarchs senior team are looking to retain their indoor team title in Coventry this weekend, as the sport is set to crown it’s British Indoor champions for the 2016 championships.

All roads lead to the Sports Connexion in Ryton, near Coventry, with a full weekend of racing from clubs and individuals throughout the country set to take part. Action starts at 9am on both days, running all day until 7pm, with the finals taking place at the end of each race day.

The Monarchs are in action on Saturday in the team event. They have been drawn in the ‘group of death’ in semi final 2 against Leicester, Ipswich and Horspath – teams all capable of winning the event. The winners of each group go into the final later in the day at 5pm with the best runners up also making the final.

Monarchs will have 4 of the 5 riders that won last year’s title with indoor specialist Paul Timms looking to step in at reserve while Scott Millward, Ricki Johnson, Chris Timms and Nathan Groves looking to be the main team.

Also on Saturday, Ewan Hancox takes part in the U16s championship, needing to navigate the qualifier at 9am – the final set for 1pm. Later in the day Paul Timms will compete in the over 40s final and has a good record in this event, so will be looking to get on the rostrum.

Sunday is all about individual glory with Millward, Johnson and Groves drawn in semi final 1 at 10am, whilst Chris and Paul Timms race in semi final 2 at 11.30, the final taking place at 5.30pm.
