MATCH REPORT: Monarchs get Midland League campaign underway

Sunday saw the Birmingham Monarchs get their Midland League programme started with triple victory over the East Park Wolves. An under strength Wolves outfit proved no match for the Monarchs, who took victory in the 3 league matches.

The Monarchs opened with 3 maximums to set the tone of the days action. The Wolves managing one advantage of their own in heat 4, taking a 2nd in heat 10 just after the interval.

The rest was all Monarchs, taking 10 7-3s throughout the match on a dry and dusty Birmingham circuit. Groves, Millward, Johnson and Hodgkinson all took maximums on the day. Finishing with a final score of 111-68.

BIRMINGHAM SCORERS: Ricki Johnson 19+1 (5), Mark Winwood 19 (5), Scott Millward 17+3 (5), Nathan Groves 16+4 (5), Chris Timms 13+3 (5),  James Chattin 10 (4), Ewan Hancox 9+1(5),  Steve Hodgkinson 8 (2).

In the second division it was again all one way traffic with only Josh Hill offering a challenge from the wolves. Jake Steel impressed with one dropped point. Final score 85-46.

BIRMINGHAM SCORERS: Jake Steel 18+1 (5), Jamie Breen 15 (4), Josh Davies 14+1(4),  Marc Phipps 13+5 (5),  Billy Winwood 13+1 (4),  James Chattin 8+3 (3),  Dylan Hawtin 8+3 (3),  Ryan Winwood 6+2 (2) V East Park 46 (55-9 penalty points).

In the juniors match the mini Monarchs proved too strong for a young travelling Wolves side and ran away winners by 88-42.

Mini Monarchs also took part in the 2nd round of the BYJL at Wednesfield on Saturday.

Connor Steel took victory in the U12s to move top of the table whilst Jamie Breen also made the final finishing 4th.

Charlie Buet Gannon missed on the A final but won the B final in the U10’s. Both Billy and Ryan made the A final in the U14’s, Billy taking 2nd and Ryan 3rd.

In the U18s Ewan Hancox made the A final again and took another 3rd place. He moves to 2nd overall after 2 rounds. Jake Steel came 3rd in the C final with Marc Phipps 2nd in the D final.
