CLUB NEWS: Individual action for Monarchs men

Birmingham Monarchs had no team action over the weekend, however, plenty of riders were in action at various events.

Round 2 of the Eurovets series saw veteran Monarchs travel to Stoke with varying degrees of success. Paul Timms recovered from a heavy fall and a no score heat to qualify for the 60s A final and finished on the rostrum in 3rd place.

Mark Winwood was hoping to build on an opening round 2nd place in the 40s, however was only able to make the B final on this occasion and a 2nd place finish sees his points tally at 41 and slips to 5th in the standings.

Steve Hodgkinson had a solid afternoon to amass 14 points and a B final appearance, finishing in 2nd place, however, an after meeting crash saw him return home with 2 broken ribs.

On Sunday, Birmingham riders represented the Midlands in the Battle of Britain competition with the Midlands winning both meetings against the North and Scotland. The Monarchs had representation from Scott Millward, Ricki Johnson, Mark Winwood and Ewan Hancox.

Johnson, Millward and Chris Timms represented a Sandwell side at Wednesfield on Saturday in a memorial meeting, both Johnson and Millward former Sandwell riders.

This bank holiday weekend is the club championships weekend with Monarchs teams entered into most categories.

The Under 12s and 14s travel to Newport on Saturday, the Over 40s travel to Poole on Sunday whilst the Under 16 and senior team are in action on Monday in Horspath, Oxford.

The next home fixture will be Saturday 3rd June as Birmingham host the 4th round of the BYJL, where trophies will be presented to the winners.
