MATCH REPORT: Hellingly host BYJL/SEGP Round 4

It was the turn of Hellingly to host the fourth round of the BYJL/SEGP on a beautifully sunny day at the picturesque track.

For most of the youngsters, this was their first encounter with the unique, tricky and technical track with many finding it difficult.

U8 championship leader, Kesgrave’s Oliver Edmunds, looked extremely confident as he attacked from the off, winning the A final from gate 4. The all Kesgrave A final saw Luca Woodhouse finish second from a tenative Harvey Shumake and the smooth Lily Parr completing the top four. Oliver extends his lead in the championship to 30 points.

Kesgrave’s Charlie Parr’s tactics of, getting to the first corner first and then holding his opponents off, served him well; Charlie winning the U10 A final from gate 4. Ryker Jolly (Kesgrave) pushed Charlie hard but finished second, Magnus Vincent (Kesgrave) was third with Hellingly’s Ianna-Jade Stowe fourth. Charlie extends his lead in the standings to 10 points over Ryker.

The track suited Noah Woodhouse’s style perfectly and he duly took the U12 A final win. Noah (Kesgrave) was chased hard by Ipswich’s Kai Gowers who came to grief on the difficult bend two and eventually finished third. Torsten Jolly (Kesgrave) capitalised on Kai’s misfortune and finished second with Kesgrave’s Leo Vincent fourth. Noah now joins Torsten at the top of the championship table with Kai dropping two places but is just one point behind.

With Lewis Brinkhoff (Kesgrave) absent, Ben Clarke (Ipswich) took full advantage by winning the hard fought U14 A final. Jake Vincent (Kesgrave) finished second with the Hellingly pair of George Morley and Ethan Page third and fourth after a tough battle. Ben now takes over at the top of the standings from Lewis with Jake moving up to third.

There were only two U18s racing, Owen Wells (Hethersett) getting the better of a hard chasing Adam Cooper (Great Blakenham). Adam moves to the top of the championship from Owen with Ipswich’s Reece Johnson dropping to third.

Hellingly’s Rebecca Hollebon was the only entrant in the Girls’ event; Rebecca moves up to third in the standings behind the Ipswich pair of Chloe Pearce and Lily Gedge.

Round 1 of the National BYJL (and CS Little League) will be held at Kesgrave on Saturday 24 June with Round 5 of the South East GP being held on Saturday 29 July 2017 at East London.
