POLAND: Hope for one last match at Rawicz?

On a recent trip to Poland, Pete Barnes met up with former Poole SeaView Coaches rider, Artur Poprawski, and both took the opportunity to visit the now unused Rawicz track.

It was not a welcome sight, as the public address and cycle storage buildings have now been dismantled, the centre green overgrown, the racing circuit covered in weeds, although the seating and safety fence are still in place.

It appears the town authorities are now planning to convert the total area into tennis courts. However, Poprawski indicated that he is considering a proposal, with additional volunteers, to arrange a mini upgrade in an attempt to stage a final meeting at a date
to be confirmed.

There is no doubt that this venture would attract the top European riders to a venue
that hosted a European Championship in addition to other major events due in the main to the tireless efforts of Andriez Wlodarczyk, who was the club founder and in turn President of the Polish Federation.
