CLUB NEWS: Success for Monachs at Eurovets and BYJL

The Eurovets series travelled to Newport on Saturday for round 5 in what turned out to be in treacherous conditions with heavy rain falling throughout. Racing on the pacey Welsh circuit proved hard work for the riders.

Paul Timms took his second victory of the series by outgating home hero Colin Simmons to seal victory in the 60s A final. Paul also made the 50s B final and let slip second place but held on for third from his Monarch team mate, Steve Hodgkinson.

Mark Winwood also made the A final in the 40s and battled hard throughout the race trying a wide outside pass on the last lap which forced race leader Kev Burns to make a defensive move leaving Northumbrian Jason Keith to slip under both to steal the win on the line. Winwood had to settle for third on the day.

Round 2 of the Nationals BYJL came to East Park last Saturday. Connor Steel starred for the Monarchs taking second place in the A final in the U12s. Bekah Humphries also competed and came fourth in the C final. Both an improvement on round 1.

For the first time we had representation in all age categories. Ewan Hancox took a win in the B final of the U18s with Jake Steel scoring 8 points. Ryan Winwood took victory in the D final of the U14s whilst Charlie Buet Gannon was second in the C final of the U10s. Newcomers Izzy Buet Gannon and Samuel Price took part in the U8s scoring 4 and 5 respectively.

On Sunday the Mini Monarchs (cover photo) took on Brandon in two challenge matches. The rain stayed away and the action took place in glorious weather. In the first match the U12 Monarchs proved much too strong for the Brandon youngsters, however, the visitors turned the tables in the second division friendly by taking a comprehensive victory.

The Monarchs travel to Stoke on Sunday for a challenge fixture.
