MATCH REPORT: Newport secure top spot

Newport (Dig It Landscapes) Cycle Speedway team secured top spot in the South West and Wales Division 1 League, after a comfortable 97-79 home win against nearest rivals Horspath Hammers.

Jack Harrold failed a late fitness test on an injured hamstring, so Newport brought in Callum Goward. Newport dominated the early heats through fine wins from Jacob Soper, Ben Mould and Chris Davies.

The Oxford based team were just about staying in the meeting due to good form shown by Jake Neighbour, Lukas Nowacki and Zac Payne, but they were recording too many last places.

The sizeable welsh crowd saw plenty of good action, with lots of overtaking and a few dramatic crashes.
