MATCH REPORT: Women’s League title for the South West and Wales

Sunday was round three of the Supertrax Women’s league. The well-prepared Bury track was where the three teams lined up for the final round.

From the start of the match it was clear that no one was going to pull away and get the win too easy, as the match went on the South West and Wales side started to gain a  small lead over the rival regions with the tactical choice of Lauren Hookway at reserve and pairing her up with the young Macie Schmidt to get some heat advantages.

It was close throughout the match but the South West and Wales side managed to pull away to take a more comfortable lead, where the battle for second and third was so close in the end the two teams were separated by just two points.

This gave the North and Scotland/South East and East a second place finish on the day and second overall in the competition, the Midlands side finished third overall but narrowly missed out by just one point for second place. The overall winners of the Women’s League were the South West and Wales side.

After the team events, it was time for individual racing, which saw the Elites and Intermediates.

The racing didn’t disappoint, as there was something fantastic racing from all the girls in both categories.

In the Elite Women, Maice Schmidt and Lauren Hookway both only dropped one point. The A final lined up with Lauren taking grid one, Macie of two, Michelle Whitehead three and Lizzie Rigley on four. Lauren took full advantage of the inside grid and rode to victory over close rival and South West and Wales team partner, Macie Schmidt, with Lizzie picking up the third place.

The intermediates was a close and fierce battle between Gemma Hill, Alice Neighbour and Maddie Saunders. The three girls lined up against each other in the A final with Anna Tuttle.

Gemma Hill picked up the win off grid one, with Maddie Saunders in second place and Alice Neighbour in third.
