BREAKING THE MOLD: Stage is set for the inaugural CS Cup Grand Final
Final preparations took place at Hearsall Common, Coventry, this week, as the West Midlands club prepare to host the inaugural CS Cup Play Off Grand Final at 2pm on Sunday.
The starting tapes have had an overhaul midweek, while the track surface is looking in excellent condition to set the stage on what should be a very competitive and hard fought final.
A 12 page, full colour, glossy programme to match the eye-catching poster will be available. This features full page interviews with Wednesfield’s Paul Heard, Ipswich’s Ashley Hill, Astley and Tyldesley’s Reece Pollitt and a management perspective from Newport’s Nicky Evans. They are limited to 75 copies, so make sure you get in quick.
The final itself will be too close to call with the mammoth 32 heat programme. All four teams have good depth at A and B level, but it’s likely that the side with the strongest performing B team will emerge victorious on the day. The fresh new format will certainly not provide many foregone conclusions and should be exciting for the neutral, and easy to understand for the unfamiliar.

A healthy crowd is expected, with Newport bringing a 49 seater coach, but the Coventry club have also invested heavily in Facebook advertising of the official poster, specifically targeted at fans of sport, speedway and cycling in the immediate Coventry area, which has seen a good response from the general public. The club is now a well-known name across the city, assisted by the televised media coverage this year, as well as more appearances at the Godiva Festival and Coventry Cycle Festival.
It is also the HSBC UK City Ride in Coventry on Sunday, which means the ring road will be closed in one direction (give extra time if your journey takes you through the city centre). This means plenty of people will be out on bikes around the area and many will receive fliers for the event from British Cycling.
With a fair forecast predicted, the fresh new-look competition will hopefully showcase the sport’s potential to the wider public and underline that sometimes breaking the mold can work in its favour when looking at the bigger picture.
