CLUB NEWS: Trophy success for Jake

Monarchs teenager Jake Steel took victory in the rain on Saturday at East Park in the Ross Mee invitational in the Open category. A day of racing with all age categories catered for riders 18 and under. Birmingham had riders entered into all age groups.

Steel top scored in the meeting on 15 points with one race defeat to Horspath rider Ross Loveridge. A gate one grid draw saw him race from tapes to flags for victory. Jake has progressed well within the sport having only taken up the sport 2 years ago, this being the first trophy success to date.

In the U12s, it was Bury youngster Harry Radford who took victory with victory from the gate in the A final. Monarch riders Connor Steel and Rebekah Humphries both qualified for the B final. Connor taking the win whilst Rebekah took 3rd. Both had some great racing and can look at a race apiece that didn’t work out for them that might have seen them make the A final.

In the U10s Charlie Buet Gannon took 2 victories on his way to the A final. A 3rd place finish saw him take his place on the rostrum, another well deserved rostrum finish. In the U8s both Issy Buet Gannon and Samuel Price took part and enjoyed the experience. Sam taking a win in the D final, so excited on his first win he crashed after he crossed the finish line! Issy meanwhile finished 2nd in the extra E final.

Huge thanks must go to Ross Mee who put on the extra youth meeting, Ross is the main man who runs the BYJL and helps provide trophies for these events. In a day of heavy rain all riders should be commended for getting on with racing.

The Eurovets travelled to Hellingly for round 7 of the competition. Mark Winwood was the sole Monarch representative. He reached the A final finishing in 3rd place. With one round to go he lies joint 2nd with Northumbrian Jason Keith.

Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at the track, 5.45pm juniors. Newcomers welcome.
