RIP Wally Grant

Horspath Cycle Speedway Club will mourn the passing of founder member Wally Grant at his funeral tomorrow.

Wally having helped start the club with his brother Michael in 1954. Racing up to the end of the 1969 season from which he spent the majority of his time as club chairman until stepping down at the end of 2015 season remaining as a senior vice president.

Until recently, Wally attended a number of meetings the last being the rememberance for Chalky White match the end of 2016.

Geoff Gamage commented: “He rang me just before I went to Australia to wish me and the squads luck and catch up on club matters.

“He didn’t say anything about his illness although apparently he had it sometime, for me Wally was number one Hammer of all time.”

Wally passed with prostrate cancer two weeks ago and his funeral is at Oxford Cremortoriam 24th January at 2pm.

The club are working on a meeting combining with Eurovets with the obvious Orchid charity connection. Date and details to be announced shortly.
