HOME INTERNATIONAL: Wales teams announced

Today it’s the turn of Wales, who announced their team for the Home International yesterday. The annual Home International event takes place at Great Blakenham, Ipswich, starting at 10am, with a Women’s Regional Best Pairs meeting.


Joint Wales team managers Dale Clark and Nick Evans have announced their squads for this Saturday’s Home Internationals at Great Blakenham.

Vets team (not in riding order)

Clark commented: “Myself and Nick are pleased to announce the above riders to represent Wales in the Veterans event. The riders have shown great commitment this year riding for their league clubs and also entering the euro vets.

“It’s great to have these 5 riders available, committed riders who will always give 100% effort and we will have a great chance on the day of pushing for the win!”

Junior side (not in riding order)

  • Fraser Garnett
  • Taylor Walters

Clark continued: “Billy and Ryan retain their places from last year home internationals, both have had fine seasons to date.

“Their experience of riding for Wales will be a big help to riders making their debut. Two riders making their debut. Dan Wright and Taylor Walters have had a great season in the BYJL both scoring solid points and making the A final in their first season in the u18 category.

“Myself and Nick are pleased to have these boys available and looking forward to many years with these two riders in the Junior side building their confidence and experience of riding on the big stage.

“Fraser Garnett made the choice to represent Wales and we couldn’t be more happier to have him in our side, he has had a fantastic season with Poole, BYJL, Battle of Britain and Supertrax riding both Junior and Senior events has allowed him to progress into a solid reliable rider who can be counted on.

“Fraser’s experience and knowledge of riding on the big stage such as the World Championships in Australia will be a great benefit the boys in junior side. His commitment is first class and looking forward to working with him for the many years ahead.”

Clark concluded: “Senior team selection has given us plenty to discuss and deliberate due to the amount of riders who made themselves available for selection. Dean Hook unfortunately misses out due to injury we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in Wales shirt ASAP.

“We are excited this year with line up we have for the senior team, all 5 riders on their day can all put in top display. For the first time in three years we are happy to welcome back former British champion in Ben Mould back into the side. His leadership skills on and off the track is something we are looking forward to seeing, any team with Ben Mould in is a top team.

“We also welcome back Mark Carmichael into the team, having been unable to ride in last year event due to injury. Mark is a class act and brilliant from the gate, again his experience on the big stage will be a great help to the young guys in our side.

“Wil Bristowe will make his debut for Wales this year, has had a brilliant season with Poole and shown great improvement and maturity in his riding, we are happy Wil has elected to ride for Wales and looking forward to working with him.

“Adam Bennett, fresh from the world championships in Australia, has had a good season with Newport this year scoring some good points and taking wins over some top riders, starting to mature as a rider and excited by the prospect Adam is showing to be a top rider for the future.

“Fraser Garnett will be doubling up on the day representing both the junior and senior, something Fraser is well accustomed to this year and will be a surprise to him. Fraser fully deserves his opportunity to represent the Senior team his dedication and commitment to the sport is second to none. Always gives 100%, happy to have him in Welsh team and look forward to working with him for many years to come.”
