MATCH REPORT: 33/18 designs Little League Individual Championships

Day 1 of the British Individual Finals weekend produced a fabulous day of cycle speedway at Astley & Tyldesley’s Gin Pit circuit. Despite heavy overnight rain, the circuit was in pristine condition for the whole day and thankfully the rain moved away for the racing on a warm, sunny day.

There was a large turn out of riders and spectators for the popular Little League Individuals, sponsored by 33/18 Designs. This event showcased just what a great family sport cycle speedway is, with families and friends cheering on the enthusiastic youngsters.

In the u-8s match, Exeter’s Jack Tidball lost in heat 2 to Astley & Tyldesley’s Aiden Green, with Kesgrave’s Oliver Edmunds third. Aiden won his next two races, before being beaten by A&T colleague, Frank White, in heat 15. Jack won his remaining four races to finish with 19 points, while Oliver also won his remaining four races to finish on 18. Aiden was leading heat 20, before falling whilst under great pressure from Sheffield’s Charlie Priest. A&T’s Oscar Belt nipped through to take the race win, with Aiden remounting for second, ahead of Charlie. This meant that Jack was the overall winner. In a run-off for 2nd place, Oliver won the toss for grid positions and headed home Aiden, to secure overall runner-up position.

Ryker Jolly of Kesgrave took the 33/18 Designs u-10 Boys Little League Individual Championship, with a 20 points maximum score. The rostrum places were decided in a crucial heat 20, which brought the two unbeaten riders together. Ryker gated across from grid 3 to take the win, but his previously unbeaten team mate, Oliver Edmunds, was boxed in off gate 1, and trailed in last place, behind Duncan Whalley and Shaun Kell. Despite this setback, Oliver’s 17 points was sufficient to secure overall third place. Astley & Tyldesley’s Fraser Brundrett had previously finished on 18 points, beaten only by the Kesgrave duo, and that sealed overall runner-up place.
