MATCH REPORT: South & South Wales Junior League Round 5

After a long break for the national junior league and British championships it was back to East Newport for rd 5 of the S/SW Regional Junior League.

Another great turn out at the little Welsh track for the 2nd time this season, as 72 riders battled it out to make podium positions.

Under 8’s

There was only ever going to be one winner in the under 8’s with a Tidball in the line up.
Little Leagues British Champion Jack was never troubled through the heats, scoring a maximum 16pts.

A final
1st Jack Tidball (Exeter)
2nd Teddy Curtis (Poole)
3rd Logan Rhys-Beard (Newport Track Cycling Club)

Under 10’s

Only 2 Poole riders for the u10s but both taking podium places. Natalie Goulden pipping team mate Scott Rowles to the post in heat 1 made sure of a maximum for her, Scott’s only dropped point of the day.

A final
1st Scott Rowles (Poole)
2nd Nat Goulden (Poole)
3rd Tyler Seabright (Horspath)

Under 12’s

A massive 22 riders for the u12s category. After 22 heats of some great racing, 2 riders not meeting in the heats and on max points were due to meet in the A final.
Exeter’s JJ Wildman & Pooles Kenzie Bennett line up against Joe Hurran (Poole) & Ed Selwood ( Exeter). In the end it was Exeter star JJ Wildman Taking the spoils on the 2nd attempt, unfortunately Kenzie falling and picking up an injury on the 1st attempt.

A final
1st JJ Wildman (Exeter)
2nd Joe Hurran (Poole)
3rd Ed Selwood (Exeter)

Under 14’s

With British Champion & National Junior League Champion Nathan Goulden in the line up it was going to be a tough 8 heats for the other 7 riders, Nathan finishing an untroubled 4 races on 16pts then went on to win the A final.

A final
1st Nathan Goulden (Poole)
2nd Jack Horton (Exeter)
3rd Nathan Loveridge (Horspath)

Girls

Another disappointing turn out was the girls category, only 7 riders competing for the top 3 places. Exeter ace Rosie Tidball being the highest scorer on the day with 15 points only dropping to team mate Miah Laing who finished on 14 points. Unfortunately a fall for Rosie in the final put her out of contention.

A final
1st Maddie Saunders (Poole)
2nd Miah Laing (Exeter)
3rd Caitlyn Walters (East Newport)

Under 18’s

11 riders for the Under 18’s with Newport Track Cycling Club rider Sean Bennett making a shock return for the 2018 Junior League. One rider who impressed yet again was Poole favourite Fraser Garnett. Fraser found himself in 3rd place in his first race, but like any true champion battled on and stole the win away from East Newport’s Taylor Walters.

A final
1st Fraser Garnett (Poole)
2nd Dan Wright (East Newport)
3rd Sean Bennett (Newport Track Cycling Club)
