MATCH REPORT: Welsh Riders Championships

A record turnout at the 2018 Welsh Riders Championships with 40 riders over 4 categories battling it out for A final places.
The warm autumn sunshine also made the trip to East Newport, perfect conditions throughout the day produced some epic races in all categories.

First up in the Under 10’s, Kesgrave rider Lily Parr showing how it’s done, riding to a maximum off 4 rides, followed closely by Lloyd Gough (Newport) & crowd favourite Tia Brain (East Newport) both finishing on 15 pts.
Securing the last A final place on 14 pts was Newport’s Harry Marsh.

Under 13’s

Something had to give between the 16 riders to get down to 4, the strong welsh crowd were treated to some absolutely superb close races between the junior’s.

Dropping only the 1 point each it was Kian May (Newport) & Ethan Walters (East Newport) first into the A final with sister Caitlyn Walters (East Newport) finishing on 14 pts & Charlie Parr (Kesgrave) on 13 pts.
And what a final it was with the 2 riders neck and neck for most of the race, finally Kian taking the spoils.

Under 16’s

With 8 out of 10 East Newport riders in the line up at least 1 was guaranteed a podium place, and it was hard to look past the the fighting duo of Dan Wright & Taylor Walters, best of friends off track and enemies on track.
Heat 7 brought the 2 together where it was the experienced Battle of Britain regular Dan Wright taking the win.
With Dan riding to a max and Taylor 1 behind we had to wait another 5 heats to see who would join them in the A final.
Newport’s Iestyn Lewis and East Newport’s newcomer Tyler Williams taking the remaining spots.

Senior

12 riders lined up for the senior event which included British Over 60’s champion Colin Simmons.
Again it was the the fighting duo of East Newport juniors finishing on top with 15 pts a piece, dropping 1 point to each other.
Newport providing the last 2 A final places with Joe Lewis and Colin Simmons.
With a point to prove to the GB selectors it was East Newport’s Dan Wright racing off into the distance from grid 1 to take his 2nd championships of the Day.
It was all happening behind as Taylor was fighting hard to beat the defence ride from Joe Lewis, but the experience paid off for Joe who took 2nd place followed by Taylor in 3rd and closely behind Colin Simmons.

The top 3 in the Senior Event
