CLUB NEWS: Humphries receives prestigious award

Birmingham Monarchs youngster Rebekah Humphries won an ‘outstanding achievement award in sport’ at her schools sports award last week.
Bekah (as she is known as in the sport) received the award for her achievements and results in Cycle Speedway, a sport she is excelling in. The 13 year old attends King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls.
She is a vital member of the Monarchs Junior team who have won the Junior team title 4 years on the trot and she also finished 3rd overall in the Midlands Women’s Youth and Junior League (YJL).

Charlie Buet Gannon was also crowned U12 YJL Midland Champion whilst Connor Steel finished 2nd overall in the U14 competition. The National YJL competition starts on Saturday in East Newport where all youngsters will be looking for national age group glory.

The Monarchs team were finally back in action last Sunday after cancellations due to the poor weather over the previous weeks. Birmingham took on Wednesfield in Coventry in the Gold Cup competition and secured the narrowest of victories.​

Wednesfield held a 1 point lead right thru to heat 10 when Carl Winwood was team rode with Chris Timms for the first maximum of the meeting. Billy Winwood and Bekah took a maximum in heat 13 as the Monarchs pulled ahead by 8 points.
The Aces made a late rally and pulled it back to 1 point with 2 races remaining. Ricki Johnson (19th) and Timms (20th) won the last 2 races to ensure the Monarchs took how the points. Wednesfield 97 v Birmingham 98.
Birmingham entertain Horspath on Sunday in English League action. Start time 2pm.
