Amongst his many roles within the sport, Terry is the current Chair of the South and South East Region, and has also been a club manager, coach, sponsor, international referee, Cycle Speedway Commission member and rider.

The Wilkinson Sword is awarded for exceptional contributions to the discipline of cycle speedway, recognising those individuals who have contributed to the success and development of the sport and continue to inspire others.

This year the selection panel chose from a list of 13 nominees, with Terry chosen to succeed last year’s winner Graham Sutton. The accolade was first awarded in 1979.

Chair of the British Cycling Cycle Speedway Commission, Mike Hack, said:

“The Wilkinson Sword is the most prestigious award, for services to the cycle speedway discipline. I am delighted that Terry is this year’s winner, as he has given the sport outstanding service for many years, in many roles, at all levels within the sport. He is a most worthy recipient of the Wilkinson Sword.”
