CLUB NEWS: Norwich Stars latest round-up

The final round of the Norfolk Go-Ride & Senior Grand Prix series took place at Hethersett on Wednesday 22nd September and the Under 10’s event saw Zackery Eastwood take the win in the A Final in the Under 10’s category which gave him the overall title on 140 points. Frank Spauls took 3rd place on the night which gave him 8th overall having ridden in only 2 of the rounds. Stanley Budds took the win in the B Final which gave him 4th place in the final standings on 98 points. Connor Jarrett finished in 7th place overall having contested the opening 2 rounds and won both of them for a total of 50 points. Kenny Culling finished in 9th place with 32 points from 2 rounds.

The Under 13’s event saw Connor take the win in the A Final giving him the overall series win with a maximum 150 points from the 8 rounds (worst 2 scores discarded). Tabby Nierop was 4th in the A Final which gave her 4th overall on 98 points. Zackery rode in 2 rounds during the competition and scored 34 points which placed him 10th overall whilst Will Blackmore also took part in 2 rounds, scoring 27 points to finish 12th overall

Shaun Kell finished as runner up in the Under 16’s event on the night and the 20 GP points were good enough to give him 3rd overall. Jamie Medler led the Senior category going into the last round but was relegated to 4th place in the A Final which meant he finished 2nd overall with 119 points. Rory Freeman & Tom Blackmore reached the B Final with Rory finishing 2nd and Tom 4th. Overall Tom Finished 3rd with 100 points, Paddy Wenn was 6th overall with 78 points and Rory was 7th overall with 76 points

3 days later Connor & Will took part in a Junior event at Great Blakenham ahead of the Jim Peck Memorial Trophy. Connor won the Junior event with a 20 point maximum with Will scoring 16 points to finish tied for 4th

The final round of the EuroVets took place at Wednesfield on Saturday 9th October where Steve Copping and Paddy Wenn represented Norwich. Steve scored 10 points in the combined Over 35/Over 40 event which wasn’t enough to qualify him for any of the finals but the 20 points he scored overall placed him 15th in the Over 35’s and 16th in the Over 40;s. Paddy scores 13 points in the Over 50/Over 60 event which put him in the Over 50’s B Final where he finished 2nd giving him 3rd overall on 98 points.

The following day should have seen the Stars make the trip to Great Blakenham for a South-East League match but that was postponed due to a Cold & Flu virus which was going through the Suffolk club.

The following Sunday (17th) saw Eaton Park play host to the Norfolk Individual championships and of the 8 titles up for grabs 4 of them were won by Norwich riders. The Under 8’s event saw Luke Sutherland finish 4th with 6 points whilst in the Under 16’s event Shaun finished as runner-up with 13 points with Connor 3rd on 8 points and Will tied for 4th with 6 points. The Under 10’s event saw Norwich riders take the top 3 positions as Connor won with a 16 point maximum ahead of Zackery on 15 and Frank on 14. Stanley also rode and scored 9 points to finish 7th. Tom was the only Norwich rider in the Under 19’s event and he finished 3rd with 9 points. There were only 3 Norwich riders in the Under 13’s event and they took the top 3 places with Shaun scoring a 16 point maximum which included a crucial defeat of Connor on the line in heat 5. Connor was runner up with 15 points with Will 3rd on 14. Paddy won the Senior event with a 16 point maximum with Jamie & Tom tied for 5th having scored 12 points eack and Rory 7th with 9. Paddy then won the Veterns event with another maximum score but had to work hard for it against Dave Martin (Hethersett) as well as Rory who finished 3rd on 9 points. The Ladies event saw Tabby finish as runner-up with 18 points.

Sunday 24th October saw Great Blakenham make the trip to Eaton Park in a match where the result would count double for the postponed match 2 weeks earlier. The first match saw the Suffolk side defeat the Stars 84-75. Jamie was joint top scorer with 16 points along with Marcel Moore, Lee Grange scored 15, Shaun 13, Rory 7, Gary Colby 6 and Connor 2. The Youth League match followed and this saw the Young Stars take the win by 86 points to 40. Tabby top scored with 16 points with Josie Kell scoring 14, Connor 12, Shaun 11, Kenny 11 and Marcel 9.

The first of the Norwich Club Championships took place at Harford Park 2 days later and Luke Sutherland won the Under 8’s event ahead of Brodie Ewbank. Connor won the Under 10’s event ahead of Zackery and Frank whilst Paddy won the Senior event ahead of Tom and Gary.

Sunday 31st October should have seen the league season finish with a visit from Ipswich in the South-East League and Youth League but due to the inclement weather the matches were postponed and have been rearranged for this coming Sunday (7th November) with a 1pm start. Before that the Under 14 and Junior Club Championships take place at Harford Park later this evening (2nd November)
