MATCH REPORT: Bury Cycle Speedway Individual

The Bury CSC Individual took place on Sunday 5th October 2014, with a field of 12 riders all vying for the various categories and a possibility of the large silver cup as the winner.

A good day and a grippy track set the scene as the first heat started with a win from gate 3 for Vet Steve Mann. Will Owens took an easy win from grid 3 in heat two, and three of the pre match favourite met in the next heat, race three. Danny Taylor was starting off grid 2 with Kris Ramsden on gate 3 and Ben Scranage on grid 4. Danny led into the first bend with Kris second and Ben third, on the next lap, kris dived under Danny but drifted slightly off line and Ben was through into the lead and away for the win with Kris 2nd and Danny 3rd.

Kris, was also out in the next race and took a steady win from start to flag. Will took the next win and Ben the next before Danny took heat seven. Things were really beginning to shape up for a close finish. Will won the next race quite comfortably and Danny once again took a win in heat 9, as did Kris in heat 10. With the half way stage and a short break for the riders the scores stood at; Will unbeaten on 12 points, Kris and Ben on 11 each and Steve Mann and Danny on 10.

Louis Turner rode to victory in the next heat. Danny Taylor took his 3rd win in heat 12 and Ben had an untroubled win in the 13th. Steve Mann kept himself in contention with his second win in heat 14, and things started to get really exciting when Kris beat Will in the next. After 4 rides each, the scores were Will, Kris and Ben all on 15 each, with Danny and Steve on 14 each and one ride left for all riders.

Adam Turnbull won the next heat to finish on 15 points, and Kris won his last race to finish on 19. Heat 18 was a crucial heat with Will on gate 1 and Danny on gate 3. Will held the gate but after two hectic laps, Danny squeezed through a small gap and took the win, putting himself and Will onto 18 points each. The match still wasn’t over as Ben took his 4th win in the last race and equalled Kris Ramsdens score of 19, meaning there had to be a run off for first and second places and another run off for third and fourth places.

In the first of the run offs, Will won the toss and chose gate 2, putting Danny on gate 4. Will took the lead, but entering the 2nd lap he slipped, missed his pedal and Danny was around him and away down the track to take 3rd place overall. In the run off for 1st and 2nd place, Kris won the toss and took gate 2 with Ben off gate 4. Kris led into the first bend and despite an all out effort from Ben with attempts both inside and outside to pass, kris kept his composure and took the win and the title .
