NEWS: Buxton Hawks’ highlight in British Championship
Hethersett Hawks/Swinton & Co had five riders taking part in various British Championships in Suffolk over the weekend and they had mixed fortunes. Roger Carter took a tumble a few feet after the start if his first race in the Over-60s at Gt.Blakenham. He battled hard but finished 6th with 11 points. Katie Adams was also unlucky in her Ladies qualifying tournament at Kesgrave when she just failed to qualify for the final despite 100% effort.
In the Open qualifying rounds both Leigh Cossey and Dan Chambers had good races but also made mistakes on both days to finish with 23 and 25 points over two rounds respectively. Olly Buxton rode with controlled aggression on both days and made some brilliant passes to earn a total of 26, which was only four short of the qualifying mark for the final. He followed that up with a brilliant display in the Under-19s final – an inspired performance that earned him fifth place overall with 15 points.
The Hawks have a busy weekend coming up – on Saturday all members have the rare opportunity to race on the Spixworth track in a South East Grand Prix (12 noon) while on Sunday it is local derby aciion as Norwich Stars visit the Memorial Playing Field (2 p.m.)
