PREVIEW: Aces aim to wrap up Elite League

After a long break for the Worlds and British championships, the Elite League returns tomorrow and it’s very likely we will see the champions crowned.

Wednesfield welcome Poole to Ashmore Park and are expected to complete their ninth win on the bounce and claim the title. The Aces haven’t really looked like losing a match all year and will want to wrap up things this week before they face Horspath in round 10.

Poole have put up a real fight wherever they’ve travelled this year but coming away with any points from the Black Country looks like an impossible task, with all four other clubs failing to do so in previous rounds.

Horspath travel to Sheffield in what should be an interesting meeting in the battle for the runners up spot. Both sides are down on riders with Horspath missing their Ostrow riders who are racing in Poland, while Sheffield are still without Pawel Idziorek and Radek Handke. Coventry’s World junior finalist Mason Phillips is expected to make Sheffield’s 1-8 for his second appearance in the top tier.

Ipswich welcome Newport to Suffolk with the losing side likely to pick up the wooden spoon. Newport host Sheffield to the Olympic Sports Village in round 10, while Ipswich, who haven’t travelled well this year, head to Poole for their final fixture. With round 10 victories not impossible, but perhaps likely, it could be all on tomorrow for who ends up in last place.
