MATCH REPORT: Team GB victorious in Poland

Team GB claimed their first win on Polish soil since 2011, after coming from behind to beat Poland by one point in Zielona Gora.

The victory was all but sealed in heat 17 after a Josh Brooke and Ben Mould 7-3 allowed GB’s Chris Timms and Dean Hook to roll off the grids in heat 18 and secure an emphatic victory for Lee Aris’ men.

Following a slow start, the loose track caught out Harrold and Grimes early on, and GB found themselves 6 points down at the interval.

Great Britain rallied after the break and a Brooke and Timms 7-3 in heat 11 against Bas and Bielica inspired the comeback.

In the rest of the second half, only World Champion Bartek Grabowski could provide a heat win for Poland until heat 18. Brooke, Heard and Grimes reeled off heat wins for the visitors, including a 6-3 courtesy of Heard and Timms in heat 14, which saw them take the lead that they would not surrender.

Captain Paul Heard said: “This is the start of something big for us, to go to Poland and take the win gives us great confidence ahead of the worlds in November.”

Aris galvanised the team and the positive response saw each rider playing their part to bring home the victory.
