WEEKEND PREVIEW: BYJL National Round 1, Northern & Scottish 4’s and some regional league matches

This weekend’s action kicks off on Saturday with the first of the National Rounds for the British Youth & Junior League as well as the CS Little League. East Newport host the action for Round 1, with subsequent rounds at Norwich (July 20th), Hull (August 17th) and Birmingham (October 5th).
Sunday’s action features the latest rounds of the Northern 4’s which take place at Sheffield and riders & teams are reminded that the action takes place at Cookson Park and not at the Graves Tennis Centre as stated on the British Cycling Website. There’s also a warning for an expected increase of traffic in the area as Sheffield Wednesday Football Club are holding a family fun day (Owls in the Park) in Hillsborough Park, which is within 1 mile of the Cookson track. The event will run from 10am to 5pm. Previous years have seen attendance of anything from 10 to 20,000. Hopefully parking will still be available around the Cookson track, but this area does become busy on SWFC home match days.
Glasgow are the hosts for the latest round of the Scottish 4’s which sees the hosts take on Northumbria, Edinburgh, Leith and Fife.
There are a few regional league matches also on Sunday and in the Midland league Leicester are the visitors to East Park whete the action may start with a challenge match as Leicester are unable to field a Division 3 team. The Division 1 match will follow this with the Division 2 match after the Division 1 match.
There are 2 matches in the Crossover League and Horspath are the visitors to Perry Hall Playing Fields, Birmingham whilst the other match sees Wednesfield hosting Poole and not the other way round as originally stated on the fixture list published by British Cycling. This will coincide with the unveiling of Wednesfield’s Remembrance Garden which takes place at midday with the cycle speedway action at 2pm.
In the South-East & Eastern League there are 2 Division 2 matches with Great Blakenham hosting Kesgrave and Ipswich making the trip to Lower Dicker to race Hellingly
