CLUB NEWS: More podiums for Stars in Norfolk Championships

The latest Norfolk Individual Championships took place at Hethersett on Sunday 20th September with the Under 13 and Senior Championships up for grabs. The Under 13’s were first up and representing the Stars were the Kell siblings Shaun (who was the reigning champion) and Josie as well as Connor Jarrett and Will Blackmore. Heat 3 was a key race as the Kell siblings met Hethersett’s Mason Martin who won the race from Josie and Shaun. Shaun avenged that defeat in heat 9, inflicting what would Mason’s only defeat as he won the championship with 23 points ahead of Shaun on 22 and Josie on 21. Connor finished 4th with 17 points and Will finished in a tie for 5th with Hethersett rider William Clarke.
The Senior event followed and saw defending champion Paddy Wenn & Jamie Medler represent the Stars. The final heat was crucial to the outcome as Hethersett’s Craig Norton, who had dropped his only point to team mate Leigh Cossey in heat 3, held his nerve to keep Paddy at bay and, as the reigning champion changed his attack, Jamie nipped in to relegate Paddy to third. The result of that heat meant Craig became champion but Paddy & Jamie tied with Leigh on 14 points so they needed a run-off to decide 2nd, 3rd & 4th placings which was won by Leigh with Paddy holding off Jamie for 2nd in the race and 3rd overall.
The final Norfolk Individual champions will be crowned on Sunday 27th September at Hethersett with the Under 16’s and Over 40’s championships up for grabs. Tom Blackmore, marcel Moore and Shaun Kell are scheduled to represent the Stars in the Under 16’s event whilst the Over 40’s event is scheduled to see Paddy defend his title where he is due to be joined by Lee Grange in representing the Stars
