CLUB NEWS: Norwich round off their competitive action for 2022
Sunday October 16th saw Norwich welcome Kesgrave to Eaton Park for re-arranged fixtures in South-East League Divisions 1 & 2 as well as the Youth League, the latter match was against the Kesgrave Pumas who won 65-41. The Division 1 and 2 matches also went the way of Kesgrave who won the Division 1 match by 88 points to 72. Lee Grange was top scorer with 18 points whilst Paddy Wenn scored 14, Shaun Kell 13, David Adams 11, Jamie Medler 10 and McKenzie Loombe 6. The Division 2 match saw Kesgarve win 95-58. Will Blackmore topped the scorechart with 16 points whilst Jamie scored 15, Paddy 14, David 9, Shaun 3 and McKenzie 2. The final league positions for Norwich were 4th in Division 1 losing all 6 matches, 5th in Division 2 with 6 points and 6th in the Youth League with 7 points
The Norwich Open Club Championships were staged on Saturday 22nd October at Eaton Park where 8 riders took part. Paddy retained the title with a full 16 point maximum ahead of Ben Loombe who was runner-up with 15 points. Jamie was 3rd with 14 points whilst Tom Blackmore will rue his last race as a win would have given him a run-off for 3rd with Jamie. Tom scored 13 points to finish 4th ahead of Will who was 5th on 11. McKenzie scored 10 points, the same score as Steve Copping. The 2 riders were offered a run-off to decide 6th place but Steve conceded 6th place to McKenzie who finished ahead of Steve when they met in the heats. Newcomer jack Weston scored 9 points.
Harford Park was the setting for the Under 8, Under 10, Under 14 and Junior Norwich Club Championships 3 days later. The Under 8’s and Under 10;s raced together with leon Carter- Thornton winning the Under 10’s with a 16 point maximum. William Copping (no relation to Steve) was 2nd with 12 points with Jonah Hockey 3rd. William won the Under 8’s ahead of Jonah. The Under 14’s and Juniors raced together in the heats before separating for their respective finals. In the heats Shaun scored a 16 point maximum ahead of Tom Blackmore who scored 15, Will Balckmore 14, McKenzie 13, Zachary Eastwood 12 and Leon 5. Will won the Under 14 Final ahead of Zachary and Leon whilst Tom clinched the Junior final ahead of Shaun, Will and McKenzie
