RIP Dan Wright
East Newport have announced that one of their star riders, Dan Wright, has tragically passed away last night.
In a statement they have said: “It is with deep regret that we announce the devastating news that Dan Wright, one of the best riders to come out of East Newport Cycle Speedway has passed away in the early hours of Monday Morning.
“Our hearts are breaking for Chris, Becky and their young family and his loss will be felt by so many in the local community where he lived and within Cycle Speedway who knew him so well.
“The club are trying to come to terms with this loss and nothing will happen now without consultation with Becky and Chris.
“Please allow them time to grieve and we will give more news as and when we are aware.”
Dan was a talented and entertaining rider, who represented Wales at international level as well as winning multiple Welsh championships. He qualified for the 2019 Junior World Final in Poland and raced for the Wales junior team in the World Cup in both 2015 and 2019. Adding to his international caps, he competed for Wales in the European Cup Championships in 2016 and 2018.
His best British Championships result came in 2019, where he rode to 6th place in the British Junior Championship at Kesgrave. He also represented the South and South Wales regional team in the Battle of Britain.
Our condolences to Becky, Chris and the Wright family, the East Newport club and all of Dan’s family and friends at this sad time.
