WEEKEND PREVIEW: Derek Garnett Memorial event plus regional racing
A busy weekend of racing kicks off on Saturday with the Derek Garnett Memorial Event at Stockport. This will take the form of an England Veterans v Rest of the World Veterans staged in conjunction with the Orchid Euro Vets organisation. The England team, not in riding order, is expected to be Norman Venson (c), Steve Harris, Jason Keith, Craig Marchant, Terry Norman, Mark Whitehead, Nicky Whitehead and Andy Yard. The Rest of the World team had not been confirmed at the time of writing but is scheduled to include Australian riders Daniel Pudney and Rob Fleming. This match will start at 1pm and will be followed at approximately 2.30pm by a 16 rider individual, featuring many of the country’s top riders competing for the inaugural Derek Garnett Memorial Trophy, Also on Saturday it is Round 5 of the South-East Grand Prix series and this takes place at Somersham, start time 12 noon
Moving on to Sunday and there is action in the South-East, North & Scotland and Midland Regions. The South East Region has 3 fixtures taking place in Division 2 and these see Hellingly take on Great Blakenham whilst Ipswich welcome Hethersett. Kesgrave also face Norfolk opposition as Norwich make the trip to the War Memorial Playing Field. Hellingly and Ipswich will also stage Youth League matches against their respective opponents..
The North & Scotland League sees matches across all 3 of its Divisions as Hull take on Astley & Tyldesley whilst Bury make the trip to the Graves Tennis Centre to take on Sheffield
In the Midlands Wednesfield take on Leicester in the Midland Club League trying the new all inclusive club formula whilst in the Midland League proper Coventry take on Birmingham
