CLUB NEWS: Norwich Stars Round-Up

Zachery Eastwood was the sole Norwich representative at the 2nd British Youth & Junior League national Round at Hethersett on Saturday July 29th. Riding in the Under 12’s category he finished 3rd in the C Final.

The following Saturday Paddy Wenn and Steve Copping were looking to maintain their positions in the Over 40’s category in Round 6 of the South East Grand Prix at East London but that was rained off. A new date has yet to be confirmed for this round.

Sunday August 20th saw the Stars make the trip to Great Blakenham for a South-East League Division 2 match. After a shared 1st heat Great Blakenham took a 6-3 in the following race after a fall and exclusion for Paddy after being deemed as the cause of the stoppage with David Adams managing to split the father and son pairing of Jason & Coben Ashford to limit the damage. Norwich then took the lead with a big 7-3 by Gary Colby & Jamie Medler over Ethan Mitchell & Bill Rhodes and from then on the Stars never looked back on their way to a victory by 86 points to 73. Jamie was the top scorer with 17+4, Lee Grange scored 15, Paddy 14+1, Gary 14, Harrie Everiss 12+3, David 10+1 and Steve, taking advantage of a very rare Sunday afternoon off work, scored 4

Paddy was the only Norwich rider in the British Championships over the August bank Holiday Weekend and in the Over 50’s British Championship at Sheffield’s Cookson Park he scored 13 points to finish in a tie for 7th. The same track staged an Over 40’s pre-qualifying round but Paddy could only qualify as 2nd reserve for the Final

Norwich staged Round 7 of the Norfolk Go-ride and Grand Prix at Eaton Park on Sunday 3rd September and as with the previous rounds the Under 8’s & Under 10’s raced together and Thomas King won the C Final. Zachery was 2nd in the A Final for the Under 12’s & Under 14’s whilst the Under 16 & Open category saw Jamie finish 2nd in the A Final with David 4th. jack Western won the B Final. The final round of this competition takes place at Hethersett on Wednesday 20th September at 7pm

Sunday 10th September saw Norwich make the trip to Hethersett for a Norfolk derby in South-East Division 2 but it was the Hawks who took the win by 88 points to 70. Lee top scored with 14+1, Gary scored 13, Harrie and Paddy both scored 11+1, David 9, Will Blackmore 5, Tom Blackmore 4 and Jack 3

Norwich stage their final league match on Sunday 17th September when Hellingly are the visitors for a South-East League Division 2 match with an 11am start as the Lions then move on to Hethersett in the afternoon. What will now become Round 6 of the South-East Grand Prix takes place at Kesgrave on Saturday 23rd September but Paddy will be taking part in an Over 40’s event at Great Blakenham as part of the Jim Peck Memorial meeting
