MATCH REPORT: Comets close in on title

After 48 hours of torrential rain on the South Coast the staging of the long awaited National League fixture was in serious doubt but remedial track preparation saw the meeting commence on schedule. Whilst Arron Smith was still sidelined due to injury the visitors were minus Matt Hill due to a late work commitment. Shaun Kell and Richard Fellgett gave Ipswich an
opening heat advantage but three races later Greg Gluchowski and Kenzie Bennett took maximum points to ease the Comets into a slender lead.
The Comets duo repeated the scoring prior to the interval but a series of drawn heats restricted the margin to single figures. It was Bennett again this time with the impressive Oliver Saunders who finally put the hosts in the driving seat and although Ashley Hill and Fraser Harris responded with a token 6 – 4 Matt Mildon followed home partner Feroze Langoo in the penultimate race to seal the victory.
