The Norwich Stars that we know today were established in 1988 as North Park Norwich and one of the founders of the club, Glen Norton, sadly passed away on Saturday August 9th surrounded by his wife Linda, son Craig and daughters Lisa and Michelle.
The post below was published on the Norwich CSC Facebook page:
“It is with great sadness that Norwich Stars received the news that one of its former riders, and long term manager, Glen Norton has passed away.
“At a young age in the 1960s Glen was already proving himself as a fine rider, always immaculately turned out, and on the latest machinery of the day.
“From those early days Glen had a long association with Norwich Stars, from being a club rider with them for a period in the late 1960s early 1970s, and then upon being invited, returning to ride again and manage the club into the 1990s and beyond.
“Always so very enthusiastic about cycle speedway, Glen, along with his wife Linda, worked hard in running the club, so much so that Norwich became a club that many others aspired to be, and a club that many riders came to ride for.
“Glen’s involvement and leadership steered Norwich Stars through a great period in its history, and in doing so, provided much joy for all those club members that raced during his era of involvement.
“The yearly Norwich Stars awards night would see Glen hosting the evening wearing his famous Red Jacket, and ensuring all had a good time.
“All clubs rely on the enthusiasm of people who dedicate so much time and effort into running them in order to ensure many others would benefit. In the case of Norwich Stars, Glen was one of those people.
“Individually, and collectively as a club, we express our deepest condolences to Glen’s family.”
Everyone at 33/18 news and in the sport of Cycle Speedway as a whole would like to add their condolences to Glen’s family.
Glen’s funeral will take place on Tuesday September 9th at St Faith’s Crematoeium, Manor Road, Horsham Satnt Faith, Norwich, Nr10 3LF at 11.30am
