The summer seems to have flown past this season for the Hawks due to a jam packed racing and training schedule that has seen the youth come into their own.
Starting back in June, Lola, Austin, Arlo and Isaac represented the Hawks in the Club British Championships. Due to the amount of entries, Lola and Austin had to get through the morning qualifiers for the U14’s and then finished fourth in the finals showing that theirs is a partnership that works and plays to each other’s strengths. Arlo pulled off what was undoubtedly his best
performance to date in the U12 finals with Isaac showing the Hawk’s resilience. Lola also finished second in the U16 Girls. The Senior team had a tougher draw and unfortunately didn’t make the finals this year.
The South East Grand Prix came to its conclusion in July at Somersham with some excellent results for the Hawks:
U8 – Levi 5th
U10 – Nyla 3rd, Isaac 5th, Henry 7th
U12 – Arlo 5th, Jake 6th
U14 – Luca 3rd, Austin 4th, Tyler F 7th
Girls – Lola 3rd
O40 – Dave 8th
The Norfolk Go-Ride Series will reach its conclusion in October but has proved to be a successful platform to give the younger and newer Hawks a taste of competitive racing and they have risen to the occasion admirably. Likewise, the taster sessions have attracted new members to the club bringing an exciting insight into how the youth team will look in a few years to come.
Nyla and Luca have been travelling around the country competing in the British Youth and Junior League which will come to its conclusion in October. Lola and Nyla have both been competing in the Women’s League and Battle of Britain with Nyla joining Lola and team racing for the North and Scotland team as well as competing individually. Lola achieved an awesome 3rd place podium at
both Wednesfield and Newport.
The Norfolk Championships saw the Hawks bring back an outstanding 7 titles…..

The British Individual Championships saw Lola and Austin travel down to Poole for a hot weekend of cycling. Lola only dropped 1 point in the U14 Girls to finish 2nd and the next day finished 6th in the U16 Girls, beating the newly crowned U14 Girls British Champion. Austin finished 10th in the U14 Open giving himself a great chance for next year when he stays in that category and some of the older riders move up. Nyla and Isaac were both in action in the U10 British Individual Championships at Manchester at the end of August with Nyla retaining the Under 10 Girls Championship with a full maximum whilst Isaac was 8th in the Open event
Undoubtedly, the most exciting and important event of the summer will be the World Championships as it is being staged in East Anglia over two weeks in September. The Club will be staging the final stages of the Under 16 Open Individual Championships at its Memorial Playing Field track on the 13th September with semi-final action starting at 2pm. Racing will feature riders from all
over the UK plus Australia and Poland. Three Hethersett riders – Hugo, Luca and Austin- have entered the competition but will have to negotiate qualifying heats held the previous evening at Kesgrave, Suffolk to make the 32 Semi-Final spots. In total, nine Hawks members will compete over the fortnight across the competitions with some also representing Ireland in the World Cup’s four
categories while one, Mason, is in the GB Junior Squad for the Nations Cup.
