33/18 News has learnt the very sad news that Steve Harris died on Wednesday after collapsing whilst at work. Steve was Open World Champion in 1999, 3 times World Over 40’s Champion, multi British Over 40 and 50 Champion as well as winning the British Open Indoor Championship 6 times amongst his achievements in Cycle Speedway. Below is how the Astley & Tyldesley club reported the news on their Facebook page:
“It is with great sadness that we report the death of our beloved Chairman and Team Manager, Steve Harris. Steve passed away on Wednesday, after collapsing whilst at work. This news has come as a great shock to everyone, as Steve was managing a course of treatment well, being fit and active. Indeed, Steve raced for Astley & Tyldesley in a match at Hull, just three days before his passing. Steve will also be sadly missed from his roles as a British ICSF delegate and the Gt. Britain team manager.
“The Astley & Tyldesley club extends our deepest condolences to his family and his many friends throughout the world of cycle speedway. RIP Steve.”
