WEEKEND PREVIEW: Busy weekend for Regional and BYJL Round 3

There are many meetings taking place around the country this weekend, starting with the British Youth and Junior League, Round 3, tomorrow afternoon.

The young Midland riders are thrust straight back into action again, after last week’s rescheduled Round 2 that moved from Birmingham to Coventry. This weekend’s round takes place at Bretford, starting at 12pm. There is a full preview for the weekend here. Stockport are the hosts for the Northern section, with a slightly later start time (according to the BC website) of 1pm.

Hethersett are the hosts for the South East’s section, where they will also run the South East GP competition afterwards. Start time in the East is 12pm. Also starting at midday is the South and South Wales section, which takes place at Horspath. The weather forecast is looking fantastic across the country and should provide some great racing for the youngsters.

Moving on to Sunday, there is a decent run of fixtures in all four quarters.

The Midland League has a local derby between Leicester and Coventry and Slater Street. Coventry are currently rock bottom of Midland League one and the only team not to have picked up any points yet. They will be looking to raise their game in what should be a good match up against the East Midland Monarchs. It’s part two of the Wednesfield Aces v Wednesfield Dragons contest. The Dragons took their first ever victory against the Aces last weekend. Can they do it again from the Away side of the pits? There is also a Midland League 3 match taking place, where East Park are hosting Leicester.

Moving up North, Stockport take on Sheffield at Webb Lane. The home side are flying at the top of the table and will be hoping to keep the momentum going against Sheffield, who have some strong riders in their squad. This match will certainly be one to watch. Hull make the trip up to Northumbria, where they meet the spirited Vikings. Can Gavin Parr’s men rally to beat the Humberside team? Will Mick Parr unveil his new Superman racing outfit? Only time will tell! The final match sees Astley and Tyldesly travel to British Final hosts Bury, which is looking like it should be a close match.

Hethersett complete their bumper weekend of racing at Park Drive, where they entertain Great Blakenham. East London travel up to Kesgrave, both sides lost last time out so they will be looking to get back to winning ways. Finally, Norwich host Ipswich Eagles at Harford Park, Norwich need to do something to stop the Euro Club Championship Finalists, as the Eagles try and catch their pals, the Whirlwinds, who are at the top of the league.

Over in Wales, Newport welcome Swindon to Monmouthshire. Both sides are enjoying good seasons so far, this will be an interesting match to watch. However, Swindon will need to battle hard to over come the Elite League side. Hellingly welcome Poole to Sussex, where they will be looking to carry on their winning ways after beating Swindon last time out. Poole will be hoping to travel well and put behind them their loss to Newport last weekend. The final match of the day is Horspath v Southampton. The Elite League side haven’t seen too much action of late, where as Southampton edged out Exeter by 2 points last weekend. If the Hammers can bring out the big riders, you should see some good racing in Oxfordshire.

Good luck to all teams and riders this weekend!
