NEWS: Brandon Bees entertain Birmingham
Brandon Bees Cycle Speedway officials have issued an invitation to sports loving fans in Rugby and the surrounding East Warwickshire villages to come and sample the fast and exciting sport of Cycle Speedway.
Officials are inviting members of the public to come along to the Brandon Bees next home match this coming Tuesday evening (16th June), when the Bees entertain Birmingham in the Midland League division 2. The first race is at 7.15pm.
The match goes ahead at the newly re-instated track at Bretford Playing Fields, Brandon Road, Bretford and admission is free. Spectators are assured of 90 minutes of non-stop extreme cycle racing – where the riders compete with no brakes.
And, Brandon Bees management are also encouraging members of the public to get involved in the local community cycle club. They are appealing for new riders, aged 8 upwards, who can have a free trial on the specially built Cycle Speedway bikes.
They are also looking for parents, youth workers and volunteers to help in assisting the newly formed club by helping organise matches, practice sessions and maintaining the newly restored track.
Club chairman Rob Hardie said: “Tuesday`s match should be an entertaining affair, with Birmingham attractive visitors. It’s an ideal opportunity for first time spectators to come along to watch and for the local community to get involved.
“There is not a great deal to do for local teenagers in the long hot summer evenings in the Rugby area and villages like Bretford, Brinklow, Pailton and Monks Kirby.
“The new Brandon Bees Cycle Speedway club will help fill this void by providing exciting and energetic sporting activity, helped by the current national boom in cycling”.
Brandon, who won their opening encounter against Coventry three weeks ago, will be spearheaded by local Warwickshire rider Matt Hambidge (pictured below by Paul Devine)) for Tuesday`s battle with Birmingham.
They also hope to include former Coventry riders Liam McGuire and Ashley Pointer for their home debuts against the Brummies.
