NEWS: Astley & Tyldesley’s Wigan Sports Awards Successes
Astley & Tyldesley Cycling Club enjoyed a terrific night of success at the Believe Wigan Sports Awards Evening at the D.W. Stadium, Wigan on Friday evening. More than 300 people were present at the evening, with 85 nominations received for the nine categories of awards. 15 A&T club members turned out to enjoy a very successful evening.
A&T’s junior cycle speedway team were awarded 3rd place in the Team of the Year category, for another successful season’s racing on the track.
Next up saw Junior Team Manager Will Evans take runners- up spot in the Coach of the Year category, for his successes in developing the club’s young riders.
The Volunteer of the Year Award went to Social Secretary and Assistant Team Manager Janine Paine, in recognition of her sterling efforts on the club’s behalf.
The final presentation saw the Astley & Tyldesley Club scoop the main award of the evening, in winning the Club of the Year Award. This was a great way for the club to celebrate its 25th anniversary season and followed on from winning the same award in 2011.
This was by far A&T’s most successful night at these annual awards, taking honours in four of the nine categories. Janine Paine and the A&T Club will now represent Wigan at the Gt. Manchester Sports Awards Evening at The Point, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester on Friday 20th November.
As ever, the evening was superbly organized by Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust and guests were treated to a splendid four course meal in a plush suite.
N.B. Will Evans was unable to attend, due to playing in a music concert at the Albert Hall, London, so fellow Coach Mike Hack accepted the award on his behalf.
